Discovery of the modernist route

During this period, many renowned architects left their mark on Reus, creating an urban landscape exceptionally rich in modernist buildings.
Highlights of the tour
Pere Mata Institute
The tour begins with an impressive view of the Pere Mata Institute, built between 1897 and 1912 and designed by the renowned architect Lluís Doménech i Montaner.
This work is one of the most outstanding works of European Modernism. It is a psychiatric hospital that, although it was not built as the architect planned, they managed to build an imposing architectural complex of several pavilions that were a reference in the construction of health care typology.
It can be visited on weekends, and we assure you that it is well worth it.
Mercadal Square
You can not miss the Plaza del Mercadal, the heart of the city, where we can admire several modernist buildings, such as the Fortuny Theater and the Casa de Rull, which add a special and unique charm to this historic space.
In this square we find the Renaissance Town Hall, but also a lot of terraces where you can have a good vermouth and spend a pleasant moment. In addition, we also find a beautiful corner house such as Casa Navàs.
Navàs House
We continue our exploration with a stop at Casa Navàs, designed by architect Lluís Doménech i Montaner. This jewel of Catalan modernism is known for its exquisite ornamentation and impressive facade. It is also the only modernist house in Europe that preserves its original interior. What will you be able to see in it?

Entering Casa Navàs is like entering a large artificial garden full of flourishes in which the stained glass windows of approximately 200 square meters, the stonework, the furniture, the embroidered tapestries, ceramics, paintings, etc. stand out.

Gasull House
Another highlight of our route is the Gasull House, designed by the modernist architect Pere Caselles i Tarrats. This masterpiece is known for its elegant facade and interior decoration, reflecting the opulence of the period.
This building was completed in 1911, and already shows an evolution from modernism to noucentisme.
