Riudoms, Vinyols and Arcs, Montbrió
Beyond Cambrils and Salou you will find small towns that will show you that this area is much more than just the coast.
If you go 5 or 10 kilometers inland, you will find towns like Vinyols y els Arcs, Riudoms or Montbrió del Camp: small towns that in the not too distant past were agricultural and that today still retain their links to the countryside.
They are quiet towns, close to the coast and to cities such as Reus and Tarragona, but they live a calmer and more leisurely pace of life. Places where relationships with neighbors and friends are still an important part of everyday life.
They are nice to meet, just leave the car and wander through them, discover their day to day, their streets and their way of being. In them you will find small shops and markets where you can buy top quality products such as fruits and vegetables directly from the field or olive oil, jam or nuts produced by small companies in the area.
In most towns you will find the cooperative where the oil so typical of the area is produced, made with Arbequina olives, olive pâté and other delicacies.
It is worth noting among them Riudoms, a town that is discussed with Reus as being the birthplace of the brilliant architect Antoni Gaudí. Some say he was born there, and today you can visit the “Mas de la Calderera”, where Gaudí spent long periods during his childhood.
They are also beautiful to discover the agricultural and rural roads that unite these populations with each other. Increasingly signposted paths to travel on foot, by bike or on horseback.
During the summer, do not stop looking for its small major festivals to discover its culture and its people a little more thoroughly.
